The areas identified for the study are Hidalgo County in Texas, Santa Cruz County in Arizona, and Luna and Otero Counties in New Mexico. These counties were selected due to their similarities in high rates of Mexican-heritage children, overweight and obesity, neighborhood deprivation, poverty, low educational attainment, food insecurity, and locational disadvantage for food and physical activity.
