  • Identified colonia/neighborhood characteristics and physical activity opportunities.
  • Engaged promotoras in determining needs and assets of colonias/neighborhoods.
  • Evaluated the quality of parks and community recreation resources.
  • Provided promotoras with the opportunity to work in areas not previously worked.

Assessed communities, neighborhoods, and colonias for general characteristics and physical activity infrastructure.

Physical Activity Place Assessment (PAPA)

Assessed the following physical activity places:

  • facilities–trails/paths, sidewalks, playground equipment, and fenced open fields
  • amenities–restrooms, drinking fountains, trash containers, benches, lighting, and picnic tables
  • incivilities–substance, alcohol, vandalism, trash, drug paraphernalia, and dog refuse
Food Environment

Assess the following food vendors to determine the accessibility of  food and the ways it affected the populations eating behavior:
